The Best Kind of Anniversary

Duuuuuh. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, of course! For lots of people, myself included, this is the shopping event of the year. I mean, what’s not to like. They bring in new fall merchandise and take 33% off. If you don’t like to save money, by all means, skip it. For me, it’s the perfect time to refresh my basics like bras and undies, but also a great time to throw down for a pair of Frye booties or my favorite Paige denim. Nordstrom changed the sale a few years ago so that there is now a weeklong presale, open to Nordstrom card holders only. Then begins the sale for the common folk. If you don’t get there early enough, the selection is definitely not the same. Seriously, if you don’t have a Nordstrom card, get one, this sale makes it worth it.

I took a half day on July 10 and hit Bellevue Square with my friend Leslie. This is serious business for me. A lot of ground to cover in 4 hours. I am still editing things down, I did some massive damage. It’s not easy, I tell you. #onepercentproblems. If you haven’t shopped it yet, what the funk are you waiting for? Prices go up August 4th! Sharing a few of my faves below:

Jackets – I am a total whore for good outerwear, as you’ve seen in the Spring Coat Obsession post. I picked up 2 little beauties on this sale, and 1 is a direct knockoff of the Vince Scuba Jacket ($995 – never gonna happen) I included in the other post. I am thrilled with my new Trouve leather moto jacket, and for $199. Um, yeah, sold. (FYI – Trouve is a Nordstrom in-house brand, this is where you can get the best deals.) The other jacket was a Rag & Bone Canvas Military Jacket, love it. I’d show you a pic, but it’s already sold out. See, I told you…

Sweaters – I cleaned up on sweaters this year. Lately, the strangest thing has been happening at Nordstrom. Point of View is calling my name. Is it because I’m turning 40 in 2 years? Not sure, but I can’t walk by that department without seeing something I really like (I try to balance it out by my refusal to let go of BP). Another in-house brand is Halogen and I was blown away by the sub $100 pricing on tons of gorgeous cashmere, tons of colors and styles. I picked up the High/Low Cashmere V-Neck Tunic in navy ($98.90) and 2 of the Solid Cashmere Sweater ($84.90) in grey and camel heather.

Shoes – The sale is about boots, boots, more boots, and booties. Tons of fantastic tall boots if you need a pair, but I am still way into booties. I cannot wait to wear my new Frye Patty Leather Riding Bootie in redwood ($218) with some skinny jeans and one of my new Halogen sweaters. I. Love. Fall.

Those are my highlights. I also got a few more things…

And oh yeah, I also got some great fall stuff for Oliver. He cleaned up too.

If you haven’t shopped it yet, get on it! If you can’t get into a store, shop it up online. If you don’t, that’s cool, you’re just crazy. Literally.

PS – Brilliant marketing.

Spring Coat Obsession

Vince Scuba Leather JacketI love coats. Whenever we approach a new season, I start obsessing about what kind of coat(s) I need. Seriously, I kind of get tunnel vision until I find what I’m looking for. Last fall, I couldn’t stop thinking about the Vince Scuba Leather Jacket in Charcoal. I mean, please, how gorgeous is this?! But at $995, it just wasn’t in the old budget. I ended up convincing myself that a leather jacket that expensive and lightweight just didn’t make sense for a Seattle fall/winter. Sigh.

Fast forward to now. Spring is here, we gained an hour of daylight, cherry blossoms are in bloom. Time for some new, spring outerwear. I have a khaki trench from Banana Republic that I love – kind of like this one, but khaki. I’ll be honest, I don’t really shop at BR, but my trench is perfect, and I’m sure I got it for 40% off, so that box is checked. I am left with a void, specifically a lightweight, black jacket. I started searching on my usual sites: ShopBop, Revolve, Nordstrom, Madewell, Jcrew and I found this little beauty – the Mackage Darby Neo Trench ($498) on Revolve. I love the hood. I love the leather detailing. Just. Plain. Love.

Fear not, dear readers, you know I’m no dummy when it comes to paying full price. I found a Revolve coupon on Retail Me Not for 20% off when you download the iPhone app. I don’t even have an iPhone, suckers! Uh, maybe shouldn’t be bragging about this as it means I have a Windows Phone. Yep, I’m the one. But, I used my darling co-worker Chauncy’s iPhone and saved myself $100. Thanks lady!

Coat obsession has been quelled…until next season that is.

Cruisin for a Brewzzer

After my NYC trip, I realized I had a gap in my wardrobe to fill. I think I have about 5 pairs of boots I am rotating between right now, various colors/heel heights, some dressy, some are more casual, 4 of the 5 are ankle boots. I decided I needed a new pair of flat, black, casual boots that I can wear with skinnies as I’m not really liking last year’s black, flat, casual knee high boots. It also didn’t hurt that Clare had a cute pair on all weekend which were inspiring me.

Well, I found my perfect pair of boots yesterday at a lunchtime detour to Nordstrom with my friend Leslie (who subsequently bought them as well). Hello, Steve Madden ‘Brewzzer’ ($129)! So cute, 3 colors to choose from, look great with skinnies or leggings, super comfortable. I only wish I had purchased them before my trip to NYC. For that price, it’s not a huge investment, so if they only last me this year, that’s ok. Once again, Steve Madden makes a nice little knockoff of something more expensive, I’m sure, and I like it just fine.

Also, my dad used to say “crusin for a brusin” a lot when I was little, I couldn’t resist. People who know me well know I like me some puns.

My Love Story

Great structure, soft and supple, soooo good looking. In the spirit of Cyber Monday, I wanted to share my love story… with a Balenciaga bag and some serious savings to boot. This story is not for the faint of heart (translation – if you are not in favor of spending a large sum of money on a bag, please stop reading). A new bag purchase has been on my mind for months and I have been searching for the perfect fit. I wanted cross-body, but with the option of a shorter strap as well. I wanted a certain size. I even made a few purchases, but returned everything because they just weren’t quite right.

I started thinking about the Balenciaga Giant 12 Velo in Rose Gold (cough, cough, $1895). I. love. this. bag. I tried it on at Nordstrom and was seriously considering using my 10 point day to make it worth my while, but with tax, this beauty was going to set me back over $2000. That’s when fate stepped in. I was on Gilt the next day and found said bag for $1519! I couldn’t believe it. This was the exact same bag I had just tried on at Nordstrom the day before and is also at Neiman’s/Barneys for full price! I even called Gilt to make sure this wasn’t coming off the back of a truck and they assured me it was coming directly from Balenciaga. I had a $75 credit and a $50 coupon, plus Gilt doesn’t charge sales tax, so I ended up getting my beautiful bag for only $1402. That is about 30% less than I would have paid at Nordstrom. I realize this is a lot of money to spend on a bag and this is not something I do on a regular basis, but I did it. One of the benefits of working full time is treating myself once in awhile! There, justification over.

We are so happy together. This is a perfect fit for me! I am totally, 100%, in LOVE!

If you think I’m a total asshole with this post, that’s ok. My beautiful bag gives me the solace to handle your judgment.
